Leonard Williams makes sense in the short term for the Giants

Williams will slide into a crowded defensive line group for the Giants. The Giants have spent recent draft capital on a trio of defensive tackles in Dalvin Tomlinson (55th overall in 2017), B.J. Hill (69th overall in 2018), and Dexter Lawrence (17th overall in 2019). With the draft picks they just invested into Williams, he’s guaranteed to be a significant contributor for the team.

As the sixth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Williams was expected to be more of a force of destruction on the defensive line than he’s been. He hasn’t turned into an elite defensive lineman, but he’s solid — and having one of the better seasons of his career as a pass rusher. Williams peaked in 2016 with seven sacks, yet he only has seven total sacks in the 39 games he’s played since the 2016 season, including zero this year.
