What the data tells us about Troy Dye, the Vikings’ latest Day Three linebacker

The Vikings have drafted at least one linebacker on Day Three of the draft every year since 2009, accumulating 15 last-day picks at the position in those 12 years. Primarily, these players serve special teams roles, but often contribute from scrimmage, with Jasper Brinkley, Gerald Hodges, Audie Cole and Ben Gedeon all earning significant playing time with the franchise.

The latest such pick is Troy Dye, a tall Oregon defender who played with a cast on his hand (broken thumb) for much of the year and finished the season playing through a meniscus tear in his knee.
