Derek Carr is getting too much credit for the Raiders’ offensive success (again)

We spent the last two years laughing at Jon Gruden seemingly stumble his way through the task of rebuilding a Raiders team that crashed back down to earth after a brief resurgence led to a playoff appearance in 2016.

For at least a moment, the jokes will have to stop.

After an exhilarating 31-24 win over the Lions, Oakland is sitting at 4-4 with a soft(ish) remaining schedule. On top of that, Gruden has quietly built one of the NFL’s best and most balanced offenses. The Raiders rank fifth in offensive DVOA, third in pass DVOA and sixth in run DVOA. If not for a porous defense, we might be talking about Oakland as a serious contender in the AFC.
