After a successful inaugural event last summer, Sports Info Solutions (SIS) announced today that it will host another football analytics challenge with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Last year’s inaugural event successfully raised $4,382 for the United Negro College Fund. This year, SIS intends to raise at least $10,000.

This year there will be two different competition tracks available: there will be one research question geared towards on-field football analysis, and there will be another which asks a question of particular interest to sports bettors. Participants for both tracks will be given access to a relevant subset of SIS’s proprietary NFL data from the full 2020 regular season for use in the competition.

Competition Tracks:

Participants can choose to answer one of, or both of, the following prompts.

  1. Football Analytics Track: Which route combinations were most popular in the NFL in 2020? Of these route combinations, which perform best against each coverage type?
  2. Sports Betting Track: How much of an effect should quarterbacks and wide receivers have on a point spread? Responses must provide estimates for Patrick Mahomes and Julio Jones and also include other prominent players from the 2020 season as examples.

Registration will officially open on Monday, June 28th and will continue until submissions are due on Sunday, July 25th. All participants must use the Registration Form to sign up for the contest.

The competition will begin with a preliminary round of judging that will be conducted by the SIS Research & Development Department. Finalists will be selected from both tracks and will have the opportunity to present their work to a panel of guest judges during a live video demonstration on August 4, 2021. The guest judges, who will be announced in the leadup to the final event, will include analysts from NFL teams, prominent media members, and NFL alumni.

All participants are eligible to enter the competition by completing the registration form and making a minimum $1 donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America through this link. Larger donations are greatly appreciated, and SIS encourages non-entrants to donate as well.

“The Boys and Girls Clubs are a wonderful organization who have had a lasting positive impact in enabling many young people to reach their full potential,” said Sports Info Solutions’ CEO Dan Hannigan-Daley. “We’re excited to bring the sports and analytics community together in service of their mission.”
