Everybody in the stadium knew he was about to touch the ball for the first time in a college football game. What the 65,709 at Husky Stadium that September afternoon probably didn’t know is that Newton would take the snap, fake a handoff to another running back, then sprint through Eastern Washington’s defense untouched on a 23-yard touchdown run. It was the Huskies’ first touchdown of the season, the first of Newton’s career and the first of 10 the redshirt freshman would score in 2019.
