In interviewing people about home run robberies over the years, I’ve learned that the No. 1 trait needed for a home run robber is fearlessness.

Angels right fielder Jo Adell certainly had plenty of that with his third home run-robbing catch of the night on Saturday in a 1-0 win over the Mariners.

Adell caught the ball while still in play then fell over the short fence in the right field corner into the stands. He emerged unharmed and triumphant, baseball in hand.

And why not, given that he just became the first player with 3 home run robberies in a game since we first started tracking them in 2004.

Nook Logan had 2 in a game for the Tigers against the Orioles in 2005. Jesús Sánchez had 2 for the Astros against the Orioles in 2025.

Any other stat we provide is going to pale in comparison to that one, but hey, let’s try. What else was notable related to that game?

– Adell is pretty good at the home run robbing thing. He has 8 home run robberies since the start of the 2022 season. That’s tied with Kyle Tucker for the most in the majors in that time.

– Adell is the only player to have at least one home-run-robbing catch in each of the last five seasons. Poor J.P. Crawford. He’s been robbed by Adell in back-to-back seasons (here’s the one from 2025).

– Prior to Adell, the shortest amount of time it took a player to record 3 home run robberies was seven days by Adam Engel of the 2018 White Sox. Ramón Laureano had three in an 18-day span for the Padres last season. Adell had 3 in nine innings.

Also, a shout-out to Curtis Granderson, who had one span of 3 in 23 days in 2005 and then had another span of 3 in a little under 12 years, the longest span between 3 of them in our data set.

And one as well to one of the premier home run robbers of this era, Lorenzo Cain, who had 7 of them in just under 14 months spanning the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

For this list, in addition to catches, we’re including plays in which the fielder touched the ball to prevent a robbery but did not catch it. We began tracking those in 2020.
