    2025 SIS Preseason All-America Team

It’s time once again to announce our SIS College Football Pre-Season All-American Team. We used our all-encompassing player value stat, Total Points, along with other metrics and our scouting work as leading references in putting together our selections.

A brief explanation of Total Points:

Total Points takes nearly everything that SIS measures about a play and uses it to evaluate each player on a scale that allows you to compare them more easily. It’s always useful to be able to understand the different ways in which players can be valuable. Does he break a lot of tackles? Does he get a lot of yards after the catch? Does he make the best out of a poor offensive line? Does he get more pressures than expected? Does he break up a lot of passes? Total Points offers the opportunity to take all of those elements and get a quick picture of how well a player is performing overall.

You can learn more about Total Points and the statistics referenced within this piece here.

    Here are our selections:

    1st Team Offense

Antonio Williams and Paolo Gennarelli are some of the top returning players at their respective positions, and Terrance Carter Jr. will look to continue his level of play on a bigger stage. Every player on our 1st Team Offense is Top 3 in Total Points at their position among returning players.

Colin Simmons rounds out the defensive line after a stellar freshman season, leading all edge rushers in Total Points per Snap.

The Big Ten is also well represented in the secondary as Ponds and Brown are joined by star safety Caleb Downs, who is returning to lead the reigning National Champion, Ohio State Buckeyes. Eli Stowers and Jordan White look to improve upon their 2024 campaigns and help get Vanderbilt to achieve back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in over a decade. Aamil Wagner and Dorion Strawn bookend the offense line and look to repeat their dominant 2024 seasons.

    2nd Team Defense

    CB Xavier Scott Illinois
    S Isaiah Nwokobia SMU
    S Adon Shuler Notre Dame
    S Koi Perich Minnesota

Lee Hunter and Eric O’Neill found new homes this offseason, but will look to be equally productive as last season. Gracen Halton and Koi Perich are in line for much bigger roles after putting up very impressive numbers in limited action. Mikail Kamara, Xavier Scott, Isaiah Nwokobia, and Adon Shuler were impact players last season and could be even better this season.

Anthony Hill Jr. and Wade Woodaz are two of the most versatile and impactful defenders in all of college football. If Davison Igbinosun can limit the penalties this season, he may find himself on the postseason 1st Team Defense.

    2nd Team Specialists

    Position Name School
    K Peyton Woodring Georgia
    P Tyler White Texas A&M
    Returner Jalen Moss Arizona State

Peyton Woodring was tied for 1st in returning Total Points for Kickers in all of college football. QB – Jayden Daniels, LSU

This year’s Heisman Trophy winner, Daniels was a force through the air and on the ground. His 40 passing touchdowns tied for the FBS lead and his overall IQR of 148.2 is 10 points higher than Bo Nix, who was second.

Of his 211 Total Points, 67 of them have come on the ground. That number would rank 2nd among all RBs. Not only did he blow all other QBs out of the water with his rushing, his 1,134 rushing yards ranked 22nd among RBs and his 28 missed tackles forced tie for 4th-most among QBs and RBs.

Hampton leads all RBs in Total Points with 68, 13 better than second place. Of his 1,439 rushing yards, 1,020 came after contact, best in the FBS. Among RBs with at least 150 carries, his yards per attempt (6.1), 1st down rate (32.5%), and Stuff rate (11.1%) all rank Top 15.

Among WRs with at least 75 targets, Harrison ranked 7th in 1st Down rate (76.1%) and tied-4th in yards per route run (3.6), as well. He figures to be a Top 5 selection in the upcoming NFL Draft.

TE – Ben Sinnott, Kansas State

Sinnott led all FBS Tight Ends with 40 Total Points in 2023. His 673 receiving yards ranked 3rd and his 6 touchdowns tied for 5th among all TEs. Sinnott’s 26.2 Receiving Points Earned and 19.9 Points Above Average both far-and-away led the position.

OT – Josh Simmons, Ohio State

Simmons had a Blown Block Rate of just 1.1% on the year. He was 2nd among FBS tackles in Total Points Earned per Snap and Points Above Average per Snap. His balance was impressive as he was able to earn at least 18 Total Points as both a pass blocker and as a run blocker.

OG – Cooper Beebe, Kansas State

Beebe has been regarded as one of the best guards in all of college football the past few seasons. Among his 37 Total Points, 23 came as a run blocker, which was 7th-best among FBS guards with at least 500 snaps. His 0.5% Blown Block rate as a pass blocker was Top 15.

OG – Kyle Hergel, Boston College

Hergel was an ironman, playing over 800 snaps on the season. His 0.9% Blown Block Rate was noteworthy, but he also led FBS guards in Points Above Average. Scroll down and you’ll see that Boston College had a guard make 2nd team as well.

    OC – Jackson Powers-Johnson, Oregon

Powers-Johnson won a spot on the 1st Team with his very low 0.6% Blown Block Rate and ranked 2nd among FBS centers in Points Above Average. He was the only center to earn at least 17 Total Points as both a pass blocker and a run blocker..

    First Team Defense

    Position Name School
    DT T’Vondre Sweat Texas
    DT Jamree Kromah James Madison
    EDGE Laiatu Latu UCLA
    EDGE Adisa Isaac Penn State
    LB Payton Wilson NC State
    LB Danny Stutsman Oklahoma
    CB Terrion Arnold Alabama
    CB Tykee Smith Georgia
    S Dillon Thieneman Purdue
    S Beau Freyler Iowa State
    FLEX Xavier Watts Notre Dame

    DT – T’Vondre Sweat, Texas

While not known as a pass rusher, Sweat did rank Top-25 among DTs in pressures with 22. His run defense was the main selling point as he led DTs in Total Points per Snap, Run Defense Total Points, and Run Defense Total Points per Snap to boot. A well-deserved place after a monster season.

DT – Jamree Kromah, James Madison

James Madison proved to be one of the best stories in college football this season, and Kromah’s play on defense was a big reason why. Among DTs, his 10 sacks tops the list and his 41 pressures ranked 2nd. Additionally, his Pass Rush Points Saved (21.1) rank 2nd and Points Above Average (4.6) rank 10th.

    EDGE – Laiatu Latu, UCLA

Latu, a first round lock in the upcoming NFL Draft, was absolutely dominant as a pass rusher in 2023. His 35 pass rush Points Saved tops all FBS DE/LBs, his 21% Pressure rate ranked 2nd among all with at least 200 pass rushes, his 59 pressures ranked 2nd, and his 12 sacks ranked tied for 5th.

EDGE – Adisa Isaac, Penn State

Isaac led FBS DEs in Total Points per Snap, was 1st in Pass Defense per Snap, 10th in Run Defense per Snap. While he may not be as heralded as his teammate, he was 3rd in Total Points per Pass Rush among FBS players with at least 25 pressures.

LB – Payton Wilson, NC State

Wilson is an athletic linebacker who makes plays all over the field, which is evidenced by his Total Points numbers. His 71 Total Points were tied for 7th-best among all FBS defenders in 2023. Among LBs, his 41 Total Points as a pass rusher/defender ranked 1st and his 29 Total Points ranked 2nd,  his 0.12 Total Points per Snap in run defense was best. He ranked Top 25 in sacks (6) and pressures (24) as well.

    LB – Danny Stutsman, Oklahoma

Another player who can do it all. Stutsman was 4th among FBS LBs in Run Defense Total Points, 3rd in Pass Defense Total Points, and 2nd in overall Total Points. Stutsman was all over the field, earning at least 10 Total Points in coverage, against the run, and rushing the passer.

    CB – Terrion Arnold, Alabama

Arnold sort of came out of nowhere for Alabama’s defense this season. Playing opposite of Kool-Aid McKinstry, Arnold allowed the 5th-lowest completion percentage among players with at least 50 targets defensed. Additionally, his 5 interceptions tied for 2nd, 12 passes defended tied for 12th, 54.7 Points Saved in coverage ranked 3rd, and his 37.7 Points Above Average ranked 5th.

    CB – Tykee Smith, Georgia

Another in a line of productive Georgia defenders, Smith was 2nd among FBS CBs in Total Points per Snap. He gave up a lowly 0.2 Yards per Coverage Snap and just a 29.6 QB Rating when targeted. He allowed only 11 receptions on the year and snagged 4 interceptions for himself as well.

    SAF – Dillon Thieneman, Purdue

An unbelievably impressive true freshman season for the Boilermaker that saw him lead FBS safeties in Total Points. His 45 Pass Defense Total Points are good for 4th and his 27 Run Defense Total Points are good for 6th, showing the ability to affect both aspects of the game. His 6 INTs were good for 2nd in the FBS and a clear warning to not throw his way.

SAF – Beau Freyler, Iowa State

For an Iowa State defense that lost some big-time playmakers after the 2022 season, Freyler stepped up in a big way in 2023. His 72 Total Points ranked 2nd among FBS safeties, as does his 50 Total Points against the pass. Among safeties who saw at least 25 targets, his 7.7% Boom rate ranked 2nd and 38.5% Bust rate ranked 4th. Additionally, his 21.9 Passer Rating Against is 3rd-best.

FLEX – Xavier Watts, Notre Dame

Watts was a major impact player for the Notre Dame defense all season. He led FBS safeties in Pass Defense Total Points with 55, and he led the FBS with 7 INTs. He had a QB Rating Against of 42.9 when targeted, and his game against USC was one of the most impressive player performances of the year.

    First Team Specialists

    Position Name School
    K Graham Nicholson Miami (OH)
    P Tory Taylor Iowa
    Returner Jayden Harrison Marshall

K – Graham Nicholson, Miami (OH)

Nicholson was nearly automatic in 2023. He was 26-of-27 on field goals, with his only miss coming in the MAC Championship. Those 26 makes were tied for 2nd-most in the FBS. He also went 36-of-37 on extra points.

    P – Tory Taylor, Iowa

Absolutely phenomenal all season, Taylor led all FBS punters with 29 Total Points. He led the FBS with 87 punts and had just 6 touchbacks (a few should’ve been prevented) with 30 landing inside the 20 and 11 inside the 10. If a punter gets a unanimous selection, as Taylor did, it was a dominant season.

    Returner – Jayden Harrison, Marshall

Harrison was one of only five returners in 2023 to return two kicks for touchdowns. His total kick return yards were Top 5 in the FBS and his 30.9 average was 6th-best among returners with at least 10 kick returns.

Eleven players on our First Team list were unanimous selections among all 14 of our voters.

They are: Jayden Daniels, Omarion Hampton, Malik Nabers, Marvin Harrison Jr., Cooper Beebe, T’Vondre Sweat, Laiatu Latu, Payton Wilson, Terrion Arnold, Xavier Watts, and Tory Taylor.

The rest of the players on the Honorable Mention list all received high marks from the full-time Ops staff, but just missed the cut on the first two teams.

All 11 conferences, which includes the Independents, are represented by our teams. Our scouts put in a lot of hard work and dedication this season charting games and scouting players for every FBS team. After a successful reveal of our second annual All-America teams last year, we feel this was another great season of college football as shown by these selections.

Now that all of our Preseason All-Conference teams have been announced, it’s time to announce our overall SIS Preseason All-American Team. We used our all-encompassing player value stat, Total Points, along with other metrics and our scouting work as leading references in putting together our selections.

You can learn more about Total Points and the statistics referenced here

20 teams are represented in our selections, with 5 schools having multiple players honored. Here are our choices:

    Offense

    Position Name School
    QB Caleb Williams USC
    RB Blake Corum Michigan
WR Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio State
    WR Emeka Egbuka Ohio State
    TE Brock Bowers Georgia
    FLEX Quinshon Judkins Ole Miss
    OT Joe Alt Notre Dame
    OT Will Campbell LSU
    OG Zak Zinter Michigan
    OG Cooper Beebe Kansas State
    OC Sincere Haynesworth Tulane

    QB – Caleb Williams, USC

Caleb Williams needs little introduction. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner led the entire country with 240 Total Points and just over 0.25 Points per Snap in 2022. He can do it all, as his 195 Passer Points and 45 Rusher Points both ranked 2nd in FBS.

    RB – Blake Corum, Michigan

Corum was one of the most effective runners in the country last season, earning the 4th-most Rushing Total Points in the FBS. Michigan was very productive as a team when he carried the ball, earning more EPA on his rushes (48) than any other ballcarrier in the country.

WR – Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State

Harrison leads a 1-2 punch at WR for Ohio State heading into 2023. His Yards per Route Run (3.3), Yards per Game (97.2), Receiver Rating (135.9), and First Down Rate (79.2%) all ranked Top 10 in FBS in 2022 among players with 75 targets, and he’s looking for a repeat performance with a new QB this season.

WR – Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State

The 2nd head of the two-headed receiving monster at Ohio State is Egbuka. While his teammate may get more hype, Egbuka is fantastic in his own right. He finished last season with a 130.5 Receiver Rating; Top-10 in the FBS (minimum 70 targets).

    TE – Brock Bowers, Georgia

Bowers’ 54 Total Points in 2022 far and away leads all returning TEs heading into 2023. His 3.0 Yards per Route Run, 10.8 Yards per Target, and 134.4 Receiver Rating also led all TEs with at least 50 targets in 2022.

FLEX – Quinshon Judkins, Ole Miss

Judkins exploded on the scene as a true freshman to become one of the biggest weapons in the country. He leads all returning RBs with 56 Total Points last season, and will be looking to build on his 1,700 scrimmage yards from last season.

OT – Joe Alt, Notre Dame

Joe Alt earned the 2nd-most Total Points among FBS tackles last season with 45, and could easily lead the season with a more potent offense. He had a 0.7% Blown Block Rate, including just a 0.2% on Run Blocks.

    OT – Will Campbell, LSU

Campbell’s 41 Total Points ranks 2nd among all returning OTs and his 0.048 Total Points per Snap ranked 8th in 2022. As a true freshman, he only committed 10 blown blocks in 838 snaps, none as a run blocker.

    OG – Zak Zinter, Michigan

Fresh off back-to-back Joe Moore Awards, Zinter will be key in search for a three-peat. His 44 Total Points last season were 2nd in the FBS among guards, helped by his lowly 0.8% Blown Block Rate.

OG – Cooper Beebe, Kansas State

An incredibly efficient and fundamental blocker, Beebe’s 43 Total Points ranks 2nd among returning OGs, and his 4 blown blocks last year was solo-best in the country among any linemen seeing at least 500 snaps.

    OC – Sincere Haynesworth, Tulane

Haynesworth was a major reason for Tulane’s incredible season last year, finishing 4th among FBS centers with 38 Total Points. He was remarkably consistent, finishing with a sub-1% Blown Block Rate as both a pass blocker and as a run blocker.

    Defense

    Position Name School
    DT Jer’Zhan Newton Illinois
    DT Mekhi Wingo LSU
    EDGE Owen Porter Marshall
    EDGE Harold Perkins Jr. LSU
    LB Jaylan Ford Texas
    LB Cedric Gray North Carolina
    CB Aydan White NC State
    CB Dwight McGlothern Arkansas
    S Cole Bishop Utah
    S Calen Bullock USC
    FLEX Kool-Aid McKinstry Alabama

    DT – Jer’Zhan Newton, Illinois

An absolute monster last season, Newton led all DTs in Total Points with 54 last season. He led the Big Ten in pressures with a whopping 45 and was the only Big Ten defender to have at least 400 pass rushing snaps, showing extraordinary stamina.

    DT – Mekhi Wingo, LSU

The LSU front-seven could be monstrous in 2023, and Wingo should help lead the way. He ranked Top 10 in FBS in both Pass Rush Total Points (18) and Run Defense Total Points (22).

    ED – Owen Porter, Marshall

To people unfamiliar with Porter, this may be a surprise, but he had a great season last year. He has by far the most returning Total Points among defensive ends; the difference between 1st and 2nd is equivalent to the distance between 2nd and 12th. That he had 41 Pressures, 9.5 Sacks, 2 FF, 1 INT, and 15 TFLs shows it’s hard to ignore the base stats as well.

ED – Harold Perkins Jr., LSU

Another breakout true freshman for the Tigers, Perkins made his presence felt right away in 2022 by accounting for 8.5 sacks, 34 pressures, and a 22.2% Pressure Rate, which ranked 13th among all DE/LBs with at least 10 pressures.

    LB – Jaylan Ford, Texas

Jaylan Ford tied for the lead among LBs in Total Points (62), and his ability per-snap put him over the top. He finished Top-10 in Total Points per Snap among LBs last season.

LB – Cedric Gray, North Carolina

Gray, a 2022 First Team All-SIS selection, tied Ford for the lead in Total Points (62) among all LBs in 2022, ranking Top 10 against both the pass (34) and run (28).

CB – Aydan White, NC State

White was very good in bulk and on a per snap basis in 2022. His 81 Total Points lead all returning defenders in FBS, with 72 of them coming against the pass. He accounted for 4 interceptions, 9 passes defensed, and a 20.4 Passer Rating Against, which sat 2nd among CBs with at least 50 targets defended to only Devon Witherspoon . Additionally, his 0.11 Total Points per Snap ranked 3rd among all CBs last year.

    CB – Dwight McGlothern, Arkansas

McGlothern has the 2nd-most Total Points among returning FBS defenders with 74. He finished last season with 4 INTs, another 11 Passes Defensed, and a Completion% against of just 42.3% which resulted in a QBR Against of just 37.2.

    S – Cole Bishop, Utah

Cole Bishop finished last season Top-5 among FBS safeties in Total Points with 61, and is the top returning safety in the same category. A well-rounded safety, Bishop allowed just 0.3 Yards per Coverage Snap in addition to leading his team in Run Defense Total Points.

    S – Calen Bullock, USC

Bullock accounted for 5 picks and 9 pass defenses in 2022 on his way to accumulating 46 Pass Defense Total Points, best among FBS safeties. His 25.5 Points Above Average ranked 2nd in the country among safeties with 10 targets and his Boom Rate of just 14.3% ranked 8th.

    FLEX – Kool-Aid McKinstry, Alabama

Kool-Aid not only has a cool name, but he’s also an exceptional football player. His Passer Rating Against (36.4), Yards per Cover Snap (0.5), Completion Rate Against (36.4%), and Deserved Catch Rate Against (59.6%) all ranked Top 10 among CBs with at least 50 targets in 2022.

    Specialists

    Position Name School
    K Joshua Karty Stanford
P Jack Browning San Diego State
    Returner Lideatrick Griffin Mississippi State

    K – Joshua Karty, Stanford

Hard to argue with perfection. Karty went 18/18 on FGs last season including a ridiculous 13/13 on 40+ yarders. Just missing perfection on XPs (24/25) doesn’t take away from his fabulous season.

P – Jack Browning, San Diego State

Browning is a versatile special-teamer who can punt, kick field goals, and kickoff. His 21 Punting Total Points is tied-3rd among returning punters, but his 34 Total Points overall are best among all special teamers. He was Top 25 in 2022 in Punt Average (45.4) and Net Average (42.6), but was Top 10 in Punts Inside the 20 (27) and the 10 (14).

Returner – Lideatrick Griffin, Mississippi State

An absolute weapon in the return game plays for the Bulldogs. Griffin had an absurd 32.3 yard kickoff return average last season. That led FBS returners (minimum 10 returns), and he took one 92 yards to the house for good measure.

2023 SIS Preseason ACC All-Conference Team

As we approach the beginning of the 2023 college football season, we want to highlight some of the top players in each conference by announcing our SIS Preseason All-Conference teams. We used our all-encompassing player value stat, Total Points, along with other metrics and our scouting work as leading references in putting together our selections.

You can learn more about Total Points and the statistics referenced here.

    Offense

    Position Name School
    QB Drake Maye North Carolina
    RB Trey Benson Florida State
    WR Jamari Thrash Louisville
    WR Ali Jennings Virginia Tech
    TE Oronde Gadsden II Syracuse
    FLEX Jaylin Lane Virginia Tech
    OT Jeremiah Byers Florida State
    OT Graham Barton Duke
OG Dylan McMahon North Carolina State
    OG Christopher Bleich Syracuse
    OC Matt Lee Miami

Heisman hopeful Drake Maye leads the ACC after leading the country in Total Points. Trey Benson took over the starting job in Week 7 and didn’t look back putting up the same amount of Total Points over those seven games as the second-best ACC running back did over the entire season. Oronde Gadsden II was the best receiving tight end in the country last season.

All three receivers are new to the conference transferring in from Georgia State, Old Dominion, and Middle Tennessee State. Louisville’s Jamari Thrash was fourth nationally in yards per target. Virginia Tech’s Ali Jennings finished fourth nationally in Total Points per target. Jaylin Lane was first team All-CUSA last season finishing sixth nationally in YAC.

At UTEP last year Jeremiah Byers had the second lowest Blown Block% in the nation among offensive tackles. Matt Lee was tied for the lowest Blown Block% amongst centers in the country last season, playing for Central Florida.

Duke’s Graham Barton was fifth among ACC offensive tackles in Total Points. Dylan McMahon and Christopher Bleich were tied for second in lowest Run Blown Block% by a guard in the ACC (minimum 500 snaps).

    Defense

    Position Name School
    DT Braden Fiske Florida State
    DT DeWayne Carter Duke
    EDGE Jared Verse Florida State
    EDGE Jasheen Davis Wake Forest
    LB Cedric Gray North Carolina
    LB Barrett Carter Clemson
CB Aydan White North Carolina State
    CB Derrick Canteen Virginia Tech
    S Chelen Garnes Wake Forest
    S RJ Mickens Clemson
    FLEX Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Clemson

Florida State’s dip into the transfer portal paid dividends last season with Jared Verse leading the ACC in Pressure% among defensive lineman. This year they went back to the portal for Western Michigan defensive tackle Braden Fiske, who led all MAC interior lineman in Total Points.

Duke’s DeWayne Carter led the ACC defensive tackles in Total Points last season. Jasheen Davis from Wake Forest was second among ACC edges in hurries with 26. Cedric Gray was the lone bright spot on North Carolina’s defense finishing second nationally in tackles with 151.

Clemson has a trio of defenders led by Barrett Carter. Carter’s greatest value came against the pass where he was third nationally in Pass Defense Total Points among linebackers. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. made his impact against the run where he was seventh nationally in Total Points per play. RJ Mickens was fifth amongst ACC safeties against the pass.

North Carolina State’s Aydan White was an easy selection as he was second nationally in Total Points. Derrick Canteen was an honorable mention for the Sun Belt last season. He finished second among Sun Belt cornerbacks in Pass Defense Total Points. Chelen Garnes was valuable against the run, finishing fourth in Total Points.

    Specialists

    Position Name School
    K Ben Sauls Pittsburgh
    P Ben Kiernan North Carolina
    Returner Trebor Pena Syracuse

Ben Sauls had an outstanding season converting all 47 extra points and connecting on 20-of-24 field goals. Ben Kiernan had a strong season for North Carolina finishing top five in the ACC for punt yards average, net yards average, and punts inside the 20. Trebor Pena was a dual threat return man averaging 23.3 yards on kickoffs and 8.6 on punts.

    Honorable Mention

    Position Name School
    WR Johnny Wilson Florida State
    OG William Barnes North Carolina
    CB Nate Wiggins Clemson
    Returner M.J. Devonshire Pittsburgh

Florida State’s Johnny Wilson is one of the top returning ACC WRs. Wilson was fourth nationally in ADoC. Williams Barnes was not called for a holding penalty last season. Opponents only completed 39.3% of passes against Nate Wiggins.

    The 2022 NCAA All-SIS Teams

With the end of the college football regular season, it’s time to release our All-SIS teams. In addition to a voting process in our Operations staff, we used our all-encompassing player value stat, Total Points, along with other metrics and our scouting work as leading references in putting together two teams of All-SIS selections for 2022, plus a few honorable mentions.

You can learn more about Total Points and the statistics referenced here.

These picks are meant to honor this season’s best-of-the-best in the sport.

    First Team Offense

    Position Name School
    QB Caleb Williams USC
    RB Bijan Robinson Texas
    RB Blake Corum Michigan
WR Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio State
    WR Jalin Hyatt Tennessee
    TE Michael Mayer Notre Dame
    OT Darnell Wright Tennessee
    OT Joe Alt Notre Dame
    OG Isaac Cochran Air Force
    OG Hadley Panzer Kansas State
    OC Olusegun Oluwatimi Michigan

    QB – Caleb Williams, USC

The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner and Oklahoma transfer led USC into the Pac-12 Championship Game and nearly into the College Football Playoff. His 204 Total Points ranks 2nd among all quarterbacks. Of all quarterbacks with at least 250 pass attempts, his interception rate ranks 4th, impressive for a QB with 511 pass attempts, 9th-most. Additionally, his 129.4 IQR ranked 2nd only to Grayson McCall. However, Williams attempted over 150 more passes than McCall. Of the 102 passers pressured on at least 50 attempts, his 137.5 IQR under pressure blew out the rest of the competition.

    RB – Bijan Robinson, Texas

The third-year player from Texas lived up to the preseason hype surrounding his 2022 campaign. He finished the regular season 5th in the FBS in rushing yards (1,578), 2nd in yards after contact (1,002), and 2nd in forced broken and missed tackles (50 & 35). He led all FBS running backs in Total Points this season (76) by a wide margin, contributing in both the running and passing game. Robinson’s running has put Texas in a great position to eclipse the 8-win mark for the 1st time since 2018, and he is expected to be a top NFL draft pick as well.

    RB – Blake Corum, Michigan

In his first year as a full-time starter, Corum ran wild for Michigan’s offense. Corum was a part of a ground attack that led the country among all non-service academy teams in rushing yards. Additionally, he is a big reason why the Wolverines find themselves in the College Football Playoff. Both his total rushing yards and yards after contact rank 8th in the country. Additionally, his 96 1st Downs rank as 2nd-most among FBS backs.

WR – Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State

A human highlight reel waiting to happen every Saturday, Marvin Harrison Jr. dominated Big Ten defensive backs. He has the most receptions among receivers with 1 or fewer drops and possesses the 2nd-lowest drop rate at 1.2%. He makes catches at every level of the field, as shown by his 843 air yards, which rank 2nd in the country. Among WRs with at least 75 targets, he ranks 4th in yards per route run, 6th in 1st Down rate, and 6th in Receiver Rating.

    WR – Jalin Hyatt, Tennessee

In his first year as a full-time starter, Hyatt exploded on the scene, highlighted by his 5-TD game in the upset victory over Alabama. He is tied-1st among FBS wide receivers in touchdowns (15), 4th in receiving yards (1,267), and 3rd in yards per reception (18.9) among those with at least 70 targets. His impact was also seen in more advanced stats as he leads FBS receivers in yards per target (13.9) and receiver rating (155.1) by a huge margin. Hyatt established himself as one of the best deep threats in college football this year and could be an early pick as he’s already declared for the NFL Draft.

TE – Michael Mayer, Notre Dame

Mayer’s 51 Total Points is 13 better than 2nd place among TEs this season. He leads all TEs in touchdown receptions with 9 and is the only player at the position to see more than 100 targets. Additionally, his 75 catchable targets and 67 receptions are 2nd most. Over the last two seasons, Mayer has solidified himself as one of the top tight ends in all of college football.

    OT – Darnell Wright, Tennessee

Wright is tied for the lead among all OTs with 37 Total Points. He’s part of an offensive line unit at Tennessee that ranks 2nd in the country in pressure rate allowed and 6th in passing yards. Wright, himself, only has 5 blown blocks all season. His 0.6% Blown Block rate ties him for 10th-best among all OL with at least 700 snaps. As a run blocker, his 24 Total Points ranks him 8th-best among all FBS linemen.

OT – Joe Alt, Notre Dame

The massive, 2nd-year tackle out of Minnesota dominated for Notre Dame this season. He ranks top 10 among FBS tackles in Total Points (33) despite playing far fewer snaps than most of the other top tackles. His 0.3% Blown Block rate ranks 1st among FBS offensive linemen with at least 700 snaps. Alt made a big impact in the run game where he generated the 4th-most Total Points among all FBS linemen (25). South Bend will be glad to have him back next season and he should be a popular name on Preseason All-American teams.

OG – Isaac Cochran, Air Force

Leading all FBS offensive linemen in Total Points this season was Cochran with 45. The fifth-year player for Air Force was a major factor for the top rushing offense in the country. Air Force ran for more than 4,000 yards this season (excluding QB kneels) and Cochran’s 0.2% Blown Block rate on run plays was a key component.

OG – Hadley Panzer, Kansas State

Panzer ranks 2nd behind fellow All-SIS member Isaac Cochran among OGs with 37 Total Points in 2022 and carries only a 1.8% Blown Block rate on the year. Panzer and Kansas State’s OL unit helped lead the Wildcats to a 10-win season and a Top 10 ranking. The unit also helped pave the way for the 10th-most rushing yards in FBS college football.

    OC – Olusegun Oluwatimi, Michigan

Beginning his career at Air Force, before becoming a 3-year starter at Virginia, Oluwatimi had high expectations coming to Michigan, and he lived up to them. He won both the Rimington Award (college football’s top center) and the Outland Trophy (college football’s top interior lineman) in his only season in Ann Arbor. Unsurprisingly, he also dominated the metrics, leading FBS centers in Total Points (39). He also ranks top 10 in Blown Block rate (0.6%) among centers with at least 700 snaps and despite playing over 800 snaps, is 1st in Total Points per snap.

    First Team Defense

    Position Name School
    DT Jer’zhan Newton Illinois
    DT Jalen Carter Georgia
    EDGE Tyree Wilson Texas Tech
    EDGE Will Anderson Jr. Alabama
    LB Jaylan Ford Texas
    LB Cedric Gray North Carolina
    LB/DB John Marshall Navy
    CB Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson TCU
    CB Devon Witherspoon Illinois
S Jason Taylor II Oklahoma State
    S Brian Branch Alabama

    DT – Jer’Zhan Newton, Illinois

Newton was the most disruptive force on one of the best defenses in college football this year. He leads the team in TFLs and sacks and recovered two fumbles as well. He leads all FBS defensive tackles in Total Points (42) and was equally effective against the rush and against the pass, ranking 1st and 2nd among defensive tackles respectively in Total Points. The third-year player leads all defensive tackles in knockdowns and is 2nd in total pressures, highlighting his disruption.

    DT – Jalen Carter, Georgia

Carter is part of a Georgia team that sees themselves back in the College Football Playoff for the second straight season. While playing in 10 games, although sparingly in most, he’s still managed to churn out 22 pressures, good for a top 20 mark among DTs; that’s a pressure rate of 10.8%, which ranks tied for 11th. When Carter is on the field and healthy, he’s a force to be reckoned with, a large reason why he’s a likely top-5 pick in the NFL Draft come April.

EDGE – Tyree Wilson, Texas Tech

Wilson came on strong for the Red Raiders each of the past two seasons. His work on the field has led to him accepting an invitation to play in this year’s Senior Bowl. He’s collected 41 Total Points in 2022, which is helped by his 6.5 sacks and 40 pressures. The latter  is ranked top 15 nationally among edge defenders.

EDGE – Will Anderson Jr., Alabama

Anderson spent the majority of the year being double and triple-teamed, but still found a way to have a massive impact. He ranks top 10 in sacks and tackles for loss as well as leading all FBS defenders in pressures. He has averaged more than 1.5 TFLs per game for his CAREER and he is finally eligible for the NFL Draft. The likely top-5 draft pick and only 2-time All-SIS 1st-Teamer has been the most dominant defensive player in college football in back-to-back years and should be playing on Sundays next season.

    LB – Jaylan Ford, Texas

Leading all FBS linebackers this season in Total Points (both off-ball and edge) is Ford with 66 Total Points. Teams have a positive percentage of just 31.5% on run plays when he’s in the game, 3rd-best among qualified FBS linebackers. Ford also ranks 2nd among FBS linebackers in Total Points in coverage (34). The first-year starter has double digit TFLs as well as 4 INTs and 3 FF. His well-rounded, impactful game earned him a spot on our All-American team.

LB – Cedric Gray, North Carolina

Gray’s 64 Total Points ranks 2nd amongst all front-seven defenders, trailing only Jaylan Ford. However, he tops Ford in Total Points in coverage (35). He also ranks 2nd in the country with 141 total tackles and is tied-3rd with 3 forced fumbles. Additionally, he possesses a mere 7.8% Broken+Missed Tackle rate and 2.7 yards average tackle depth.

    LB/DB – John Marshall, Navy

One of the most exciting players in college football, Marshall finished the regular season top 5 in the FBS in TFLs with nearly 20 and 3rd in sacks at 11.5. Listed as a “Striker” on Navy’s roster, he lines up all over the field, primarily in the slot, but also seeing extensive time on the edge. He ranks 2nd among FBS safeties in Total Points (57) and has far more pressures (39) than any other defensive back, with the 2nd-highest at 16. Marshall’s versatility and play style make him a perfect fit for the LB/DB position and worthy of a 1st-Team selection.

    CB – Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, TCU

The non-quarterback with the most Total Points (82) by a wide margin will be playing in the College Football Playoff. He ranks 2nd among FBS cornerbacks in coverage Total Points and 7th in run defense Total points, highlighting his impact. While he could be a little handsy (FBS-leading 8 pass interference calls), he’s still tied-2nd in the FBS with 0.5 yards per coverage snap with the 5th-lowest EPA per target (minimum 40 targets).

    CB – Devon Witherspoon, Illinois

Witherspoon was part of an outstanding Illini defense in 2022, one that helped the team into a top 25 ranking for most of the season. Among DBs who have been targeted at least 40 times, Witherspoon far and away has the best Passer Rating Against (a ridiculous 1.0). He’s also 1st in yards per cover snap (0.4), 3rd in yards allowed (184), tied-7th in PBUs (14), and tied-10th in completions allowed (17).

SAF – Jason Taylor II, Oklahoma State

Taylor II was outstanding on the back end for a strong Oklahoma State squad this season. His 56 Total Points tied for 3rd-best among listed safeties. Among safeties who were targeted at least 25 times, his Passer Rating Against ranks 4th, yards per cover snap is tied-4th, and deserved catch rate is in the Top 10. Additionally, he consistently made plays on the ball, recording 6 interceptions and 9 PBUs.

    SAF – Brian Branch, Alabama

Branch is tied-3rd in Total Points among safeties this season (56) and ranks 4th against the pass. He’s 2nd on Alabama in Total Points in coverage, Total Points against the run, and TFLs showing his value all over the field. The third-year player primarily lined up in the slot, but saw time out wide, in the box, at edge, and at safety as well. Per usual, another Alabama player will have a big NFL draft decision coming up.

    First Team Specialists

    Position Name School
    K Christopher Dunn NC State
    P Adam Korsak Rutgers
    Returner Nikko Remigio Fresno State

K – Christopher Dunn, NC State

Dunn is 2nd in the FBS in FG% after going 24-of-25 this season (minimum 10 attempts) and has converted the 2nd-most FGs. He is a perfect 14-of-14 under 40 yards, 2-of-2 over 50 yards (including tying a career long of 53 yards), and 30-of-30 on extra points. He has 9+ points six times this season and finished the regular season on the ultimate high-note after kicking a game-winning field goal against rival UNC in double-overtime.

    P – Adam Korsak, Rutgers

The Ray Guy Award winner, Korsak put up some ridiculous numbers in 2022. His 32 punts inside the 20 is tied-1st, 14 punts inside the 10 is tied-2nd, 35 fair catches forced is tied-2nd, 44-yard net average is tied-7th, and 8 punts returned is tied-7th. However, the most ridiculous stat is the fact that Korsak and the Rutgers punt coverage unit allowed -11 punt return yards on the year. 75 punts, 8 returns, and negative return yards. What a season!

Returner – Nikko Remigio, Fresno State

Only four players returned two kicks/punts for touchdowns this season, and Remigio was one of them. Both of his return touchdowns came on punts (Derius Davis was the only other who had 2 PR TDs). He’s averaged 19.9 yards per punt return, nearly six yards more than Davis among players with double-digit punt returns. He was no slouch as a kick returner either. Across 23 kick returns, he accumulated 480 yards, or a 20.9 average.

With this being our first year opening this up to a vote across our Football Operations department, we decided to list out some Honorable Mentions who just didn’t quite make the cut for the first two teams.

Nine conferences plus Independents are represented by our teams. Our scouts put in a lot of hard work and dedication this season charting games and scouting players for every FBS team. After a successful reveal of our first annual All-SIS teams last year, we feel this was another great season of college football as shown by these selections.

Total Points, stats, and ranks as of 12/14/2022

    Preseason All-American Team: Special Teams

As we approach the start of the college football season we will be releasing our 2022 Preseason All-American team. A kicker, punter, and return man, and an honorable mention at each spot was selected and discussed.

Check out our other selections in these links.

Offense: QB RB WR TE OC OT OG

Defense: DL Edge LB CB S

    Entire series

    The special teamers selected were…

RET Jayden Reed – Michigan State

The Spartans electric playmaker Jayden Reed is our pick for our All-American returner. The speedy and elusive Reed recorded an FBS high 2 punt return touchdowns, and was one of 5 players with at least 200 punt return yards and 300 kick return yards.

    K Harrison Mevis – Missouri

Following the 2021 season, Harrison Mevis made the First Team on our inaugural All-SIS list. He tied for the lead among all players who are primarily field goal kickers with 26 Total Points. He finished 2021 going 23-of-25 on field goals, and 3-of-3 from over 50 yards, while also hitting all 41 of his extra point attempts. His 23 made field goals tied for 6th-most in FBS and was tops in the SEC.

    P Michael Turk – Oklahoma

The son of 3-time Pro Bowl Punter Matt Turk, Michael Turk tied for the lead among all punters with a 51.2 punt average in 2021. The former Arizona State Sun Devil and Lafayette Leopard enjoyed his first season in Norman even though he wasn’t forced to punt often. He punted only 35 times all year, which ranked 116th in the FBS.

However, when asked, he pinned nearly 50% of his punts inside the 20 and recorded only 4 touchbacks.

    Honorable Mentions

    RET Brian Battie – USF

The returning 2021 consensus All-American return specialist Brian Battie from USF receives our honorable mention. With 3 kick return touchdowns and over 600 yards on returns, he was one of the most electric returners of the 2021 season. He stands to have the opportunity to make a significant impact on special teams. His long speed and acceleration allows him to burst through lanes and run away from defenders.

K Jonah Dalmas – Boise State

Jonah Dalmas led all FBS kickers with 26 made FG in 2021. While he didn’t connect on any kicks beyond 50 yards, he was 6-of-6 between 40 and 49. Overall he was 26-of-28 on field goals and 38-of-39 on extra points making for a great stat line to bring back in 2022 for the Broncos.

    P Adam Korsak – Rutgers

Adam Korsak was very close to making the top team. His 22 Total Points from last season tops all returning punters in the FBS. While his 44.9 net average ranked only 17th last season, 53% of his 72 punts landed inside the 20, and he went the entire season without a touchback.

  • Preseason All-American Team: Safeties

    The safeties selected are…

    S Jordan Battle – Alabama

S Brandon Joseph – Notre Dame

Battle, who could’ve left for the NFL after last season, is returning to Alabama for his senior season. He is coming off a year in which he was named All-SEC First Team by both the coaches and the AP. He had 3 interceptions, 4 pass deflections, 1 touchdown and 50 tackles.

Battle is also near the top of the SEC and the entire country in several advanced stats.

    • 29.5 Passer Rating Against (3rd in FBS)
    • -20.8 EPA (2nd)
    • 0.1 Yards Per Coverage Snap (lowest)
    • 37.6 Coverage Total Points (1st for safeties)
    • 14.1 Total Points vs the run (Top 10 for safeties)

Joseph transferred to Notre Dame after spending the previous three seasons at Northwestern. While at Northwestern, Joseph was named to the AP First Team, AP All-Big Ten First Team, and AP Newcomer of the Year in 2020. He was also named as an All-Big Ten honorable mention by coaches in 2021.

Joseph has been a ballhawk in the secondary the past two years. In 2020, he had 6 interceptions despite only 17 targets. In 2021, Joseph was targeted only 23 times in 376 coverage snaps but still finished with 3 interceptions and 3 pass deflections.

His 40.8 Coverage Total Points in 2020 led the FBS among safeties and his Points Above Average was 2nd best. In 2021, he finished second in the Big Ten with 36.2 Coverage Total Points.

    Honorable Mentions

    S Jalen Catalon – Arkansas

S JL Skinner – Boise State

Coming off an All-SEC First Team (AP) selection, Catalan played in only 6 games in 2021 before suffering a season-ending injury. In those 6 games, he had 2 interceptions and 4 pass deflections. His 20.7 Pass Coverage Total Points in those games was 4th in the entire country among safeties.

Skinner is returning to Boise State after his All-Mountain West 2nd Team selection in 2021. He had 2 interceptions and 6 pass deflections, with 90 combined tackles which ranked 3rd among Mountain West safeties. His 27.2 Total Points against the run in 2021 was 5th in the country at the position.

  • Preseason All-American Team: Offensive Guards

    Preseason All-American Team: Offensive Guards

As we approach the start of the college football season we will be releasing our 2022 Preseason All-American team.  Our two guards and two honorable mentions were selected and discussed.

Check out our other selections in these links.

Offense: QB RB WR TE OC OT

    Defense: DL Edge LB CB

    Entire series

    The guards selected are…

    OG Andrew Vorhees – USC

OG Emil Ekiyor Jr. – Alabama

Andrew Vorhees enters his 6th year at USC as their most experienced lineman. He has started at both guard positions and left tackle in his collegiate career. Injuries have hindered his career, but he has fought back each time and was named the the AP All-American 3rd team after last season.

With Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams coming over from Oklahoma, Jordan Addison coming from Pitt, and Travis Dye coming from Oregon, USC expects an offensive juggernaut. Vorhees will be the leader of the offensive line and may have a chance to do something that has alluded him in his career, make the CFP.

Emil Ekiyor Jr. has 29 career starts entering the 2022 season and has been a part of a few high-powered offenses at Alabama. He will look to improve his NFL draft stock with another solid season and could finish the season as one of the top guard prospects in the country.

Alabama has a long list of NFL offensive linemen and Ekiyor has improved leaps and bounds over his career. Combine his stellar play with national championship aspirations, and you get a prime candidate to become an All-American at the end of the season.

    Honorable Mentions

    OG O’Cyrus Torrence – Florida

    OG Caleb Chandler – Louisville

OG Willie Lampkin – Coastal Carolina

OG Nathan Monnin – Kent State

Torrence followed Billy Napier from Louisiana to Florida this offseason and looks to take his talents to the SEC. He was an outstanding tackle at Louisiana and could continue at that position, but it’s looking more likely that he will kick inside to guard.

His size, athleticism, and temperament should make the transition a success and he will look to continue the recent trend of Ragin’ Cajun offensive linemen who are drafted in the NFL.

Chandler will look to lead Louisville’s offensive line in his 5th season. He has been a mainstay on the offensive line for the last several years and has a chance to earn national recognition with another strong campaign.

Lampkin is an undersized guard, but he is a joy to watch. He is a fluid athlete with a wrestling background and he is a menace at the guard position. He was named 2nd Team All-Sun Belt last season and with Grayson McCall returning, the Coastal Carolina offense will continue to wreck havoc in the Sun Belt.

Monnin dominated the SIS metrics last season and looked comfortable against top 10 opponents Texas A&M and Iowa last year. His name might not be well-known to casual fans, but NFL evaluators have their eye on him and he has a chance to show he belongs on NFL draft boards.

  • Preseason All-American Team: Centers

    Preseason All-American Team: Centers

As we approach the start of the college football season we will be releasing our 2022 Preseason All-American team.  One center and two honorable mentions were selected and discussed.

Check out our other selections in these links.

Offense: QB RB WR TE OT

    Defense: DL Edge LB CB

    Entire series

    The center selected was…

OC Jarrett Patterson – Notre Dame

Patterson returns to South Bend for his 5th season in 2022 as a veteran presence along the offensive line. He accounted for 32 Total Points during the 2021 season along with only 6 blown blocks. He helped pave the way for an offense that racked up 426 yards and over 35 points per game last season.

The lengthy list of Notre Dame offensive linemen that have gone on to the NFL should get a little longer after the upcoming draft.

    Honorable Mentions

OC John Michael Schmitz – Minnesota

OC Malik Sumter – Georgia State

John Michael Schmitz is the lone returning starter for the Golden Gophers. He will look to steer the new starters towards the same success the previous linemen attained.

Schmitz has produced at an elite level the last two seasons, posting a Blown Block% of 0.3% last season and 0.2% the season before. There are some NFL evaluators who wondered why he didn’t declare for the NFL draft after last season, but he has a chance to be one of the first couple of centers taken in the upcoming draft if he continues his high-level play.

Sumter is the leading Total Points getter among all returning interior linemen. In addition to his 41 Total Points in 2021, he also managed to create over 2.7 yards before contact for his ballcarriers and had only 4 blown blocks all season. He was a consistent presence last season on a quality team and, despite being undersized, can make an impact in both the rushing and passing games.
